Examination, diagnosis and treatment services
1st appointment
The process begins with the first appointment where you request for a mental health evaluation or other mental health services.
For the first session, bring any medical documents, a list of medications you are taking and think about the main problems you want to discuss. There is no need for any other preparation.
Your first visit will consist of a preliminary assessment of your difficulties through clinical history, interview and questionnaires/tests followed by a diagnosis and treatment plan discussion.
🔹A diagnosis can usually be made at the first session, but not always. It should be made clear that often and due to the complex nature of the psyche, further investigation may be required in further sessions and additional examinations or assessment tests may be requested.
🔹Ultimately the therapist will recommend the most suitable treatment plan for you according to his judgement. It is possible that this may involve the contribution of a combination of services within and/or outside the practice. For example, it may be recommended that you need concurrent psychiatric support from the doctor and psychotherapeutic support from a specialist partner.
🔹Successful treatment develops gradually and requires patience. There is no magic solution for mental health. Proper treatment usually involves a follow-up plan, combined with management of every relevant aspect of your health. Compliance with the instructions of the specialist you have chosen to help you is crucial to treatment.

Psychotherapy
Did you start psychotherapy and discover along the way that it doesn’t suit you? This is not unusual.
Psychotherapy sessions are provided by the psychiatrist psychotherapist Spiros Kalimeris or by his experienced associates trained in various psychotherapy schools such as :
- Cognitive Behavioral
- Psychoeducation
- Psychodynamic
- Counselling
- Relational
- Psychoanalytic
- Couple Therapy
- Family Therapy
The psychiatrist keeps a waiting list for the onset of new psychotherapies due to a high workload and to maintain the quality of his work. This means that depending on the timing of the request, new therapists may or may not be taken on immediately.
- Whether psychotherapy is necessary and what type is suitable for each individual is a complex and often underestimated issue. Due to the multifactorial nature of mental disorders, more than one therapeutic intervention is often recommended for optimal results. However, for practical reasons, it is not always feasible to implement all of them—or at least not simultaneously.
- Therefore, the decision to initiate psychotherapy should be made after as comprehensive an assessment of all parameters as possible, and expectations and benefits should be set realistically.
- Often, the combination of psychiatric monitoring and psychotherapy is applied in parallel by two collaborating therapists, with the aim of providing the most comprehensive and effective mental health care.
